In 2019, Google revamped the Android branding to make it more accessible and easier to read and also updated the naming convention for Android releases. Now, the company has announced new updates for its Android brand. Google is updating the Android mascot, Bugdroid, with a new 3D makeover. Furthermore, Google is replacing the lowercase stylization with a capital A in Android, which makes the letter stand out more prominently.

“Each time we overhaul our branding, we evaluate not only changing needs, but also future goals. We know people today want more choice and autonomy, and we want our brand to be reflective of Android: something that gives people the freedom to create on their terms. As an open platform, it’s important that both our technology and brand are an invitation for people to create, connect, and do more with Google on Android devices,” the company said in a blog post.

“Our new visuals draw inspiration from Material design to complement the Google brand palette, as well as be adaptable. The refreshed and dynamic robot shows up where Android connects with people, community, and cultural moments. It can reflect individual passions, personality, and context,” the company added.

Google has updated the Android logo by capitalizing the letter A in Android. According to the company, it will add more weight to its appearance when placed next to the Google logo. Further, the logo has more curves and personality, similar to the Google logo. Google says these updates to the Android typeface will reflect the relationship between Android devices and Google apps and services that people use every day.

Moreover, the Android mascot, Bugdroid, has also received a makeover. The Bugdroid now has a 3D look with more dimension and character. Further, the logo now shows the entire body of the Bugdroid instead of its head. “We’ve also updated the robot’s full-body appearance to ensure it can easily transition between digital and real-life environments, making it a versatile and reliable companion across channels, platforms, and contexts,” says Google.

The updated logo and the new Android branding will appear on Android devices and in more places later this year. Additionally, Google is bringing new features to its Android apps, including support for Webex and Zoom audio conference calls in Android Auto, a new widget, and accessibility updates for the Lookup app.
