Windows Package Manager Preview | Windows Command Line

Just about every developer has wanted a native package manager in Windows. That day is finally here. You are going to be able to winget install your way to bliss. One of the best parts is that it is open source. I had to pinch myself when I was able to winget install terminal, and then winget install powershell, and then winget install powertoys. You get the idea, and If you do not see an app you use, just create a new manifest, and submit a pull request.

The Windows Package Manager preview has been made open source. You can clone, build, run and test the code from the GitHub repository (microsoft/winget-cli)

AppGet 'really helped us,' Microsoft says, but offers no apology to dev for killing open-source package manager

Long story short:
Microsoft contacted the developer of Appget for an interview but never got back. 6 months later, they announced Winget which is heavily inspired by Appget.
Result: Appget is shutting down on August 1.

The Day AppGet Died.

Windows Package Manager 1.0

We started a journey to build a native package manager for Windows 10 when we announced the Windows Package Manager preview at Microsoft Build 2020. We released the project on GitHub as an open-source collaborative effort and the community engagement has been wonderful to experience!
