Hello!

India Post has recently started a new service called Digipin, which provides us a "Digipin" which we can use for sending or receiving anything with India Post in a more efficient way.

I think it is pretty good idea, but their postman here are mostly non-techie, some don't even have a smartphone. So, I wonder how this will work.

How do you think this will impact their service? Also, do you think other courier companies will also follow it? I think that will make things much more efficient for those private courier companies. 🤔

Here's more info on it: India Post Home

IMO, this is a truly game-changing move by India Post.

Kudos to IIT Hyderabad and ISRO for a brilliant idea and an impressive collaboration!

With this innovation, there's no longer a need to share long addresses or detailed landmarks. Simply sharing the correct DigiPin for a location is all that's required.

Currently, the service is limited to the Mappls app, which, as far as I know, isn't widely used by most people in India (please correct me if I’m wrong). If this technology is integrated with Google Maps or other widely used navigation platforms, it could be the next big thing in India, possibly as transformative as UPI.

This system could also be highly beneficial for taxi aggregators like Ola, Uber etc. too.

It is an excellent initiative. Japan is trying to do the same though they have not done it yet. This will solve a lot of landmark problems. Good thing MapLS has implemented it.They provide a lot of maps services to businesses. Oneday, I hope to see MapLS be like Naver maps in South Korea. and break Google monopoly in India atleast. Google charges an arm and leg to businesses for their maps service.

Their paid service is not bad. Problem is government service is pathetic. We till date whole area never got our original Aadhars delivered. Rumour has it that it's still lying around in their wareshouses. Meanwhile we never had any issue recieving items from ecommerce services.

Coming to this whole Digipin. It will only succeed if it's simple as UPI. Because people here are not good with tech who takes very long time to adapt. Till date many people doesn't know to search without the voice icon. So this is a far fetched experiment.
