cricketing greats, Viv Richards and

scored 93 and 107 in the two innings,
becoming the first West Indian to
score a century on debut in an
overseas Test match. Viv Richards
gave no hint of what was to come in
his carrer. He was snapped up by
Bhagwath Chandrasekhar for single
digit scores in both the innings. Clive

Mysore express derails Proteas

..
On an Ahmedabad dust-bowl, it was
expected that the Indian spinners
would hold the key. Javagal Srinath
though had other ideas. Defending a
meagre target of 170, Srinath struck
twice in his first over, dismissing
Andrew Hudson and Daryll Cullinan
for ducks. Hansie Cronje lead South
Africa's fightback with a polished 48. With the score at 96/4, the match
was on a knife-edge. Srinath
returned to dismiss Dave Richardson
and Jonty Rhodes off consecutive
deliveries and finished off the match
in style, getting rid of Allan Donald
and Paul Adams. Srinath finished
with stunning figures of 6/21, the
best ever figures by an Indian pacer
against South Africa.
