Finally pulled the plug on Jio AirFiber after getting Gold Pass for my Jio Mobile Postpaid connection
Timeline:
Late march 2025: Jio announced IPL Gold Pass free 50 day trial thingy for prepaid users only on certain minimum recharge plans. Contacted Jio CC as nothing was mentioned for postpaid customers. They told this offer is not available for postpaid customers. Checked gold pass with my number on their site. Nothing.
April 1st week or 2nd week....forgot - Announcement of extension of the offer. I recheck with my number. Nothing,
April last week I again rechecked for the last time and finally got the gold pass. Then immediately applied for a new connection @0 rupees. Then the waiting game started. From April last week till mid May, nobody even contacted abt kyc. Luckily had local Jio peeps number. Kyc was done the next day and connection was installed yesterday (23 May)
Tower is hardly 50-60 meters away from home. Got the 25dBi antenna. Got less than 55dBm signal. So the A6 signal was great. Now, coming to the pros and cons at least in my case
Pros - Installation was surprisingly fast especially after going thru Reddit and twitter abt installation delay complains. As there was pretty clear LOS, alignment was a breeze. Installation was done within 2 hours.
Cons - Had a 5 min electricity blackout. When electricity came back, the router took like forever to boot up and then after it had booted up completely, the red light was blinking....checked the PoE injector nd sure enough, PoE port was not active.weird.....disconnected and reconnected cable then the PoE to C6 port was active again.
During peak hours and even in afternoons, not getting complete plan speed but late at night its crossing 30mbps into 31-32mbps which meant that their speed cap is working bt due to the load in the nearby tower during peak hours, speeds reduce. Its weird as C6/A6 works over wifi and acc to Mimosa specs, A6 should be able to handle around 200 clients. Near my home, I know at least 5-6 houses using C6. Even taking a conservative estimate, at any given time, no more than 60-70 C6 clients should be connected to the tower. Also, within 1km radius of the tower, there are hardly any apartments. Most of the houses are a bit spread out and are single houses. So the user density should be less. Also noticed that the loaded pings are pretty terrible. Even my airtel airfiber used to give me far better loaded ping and consistent speeds even during peak hours. Also, Jio Join landline calling thingy worked for a little time and now it doest work. Tells me to connect to jio fiber/airfiber.
Conclusion is that even with A6/C6, this Airfiber stuff is not gonna take off that well
Peak Hour speed test - Horrible loaded ping considering its a P2P wifi connection basically
Non-peak time speed test. Again, loaded ping on download is not that great
