I am not aware of the differences in the audio quality, but when it comes to the video player controls of their Android apps, I believe Netflix is the worst -- among Prime, Hotstar and Netflix.

The Netflix player does not have option:
1) To select Video Quality of the stream
2) To customize the size/type of the Subtitles

Prime has option for customizing the subtitles. And it will at least display if the stream is FULL HD or ULTRA HD.

Hotstar has option for selecting video quality.

Netflix has neither.

And netflix is the costliest among the three!

Netflix automatically stream based on internet speed.

yes.. sadly you can't do that from the player.
You have to go to Account Settings. There you can select the stream quality & choose Subtitles font & size.

Thank you. That's good to know :)

However, I don't have those options even in the settings. Probably because I am sharing a friend's account, with an option to choose my own profile after logging in. So probably, the Primary Account holder will have those options when they access the main profile after logging in.

Each profile can have it's own settings.
Even you should be able to change it. If you have the email and password, you can do it yourself.
Or else ask your friend to change the settings for your profile.

netflix is not worst just because you can select and customize subtitles.... Netflix is most complex and versatile service. it picks quality based on the internet speed. very clean UI with exact video/audio quality indicator.

Amazon/hotstar sucks in catalog marking, there are several version of movie based on audio and video quality, just inflate numbers. which is neatly integrated in Netflix. you can simply choose audio and subtitle in the player or even before playback.

Netlfix will only play in the quality based on internet speed and if your device supports UHD/5.1/atmos unlike other service who shows same movie in 5 different places based on quality and audio language

So, a user has to go to the settings every time they want to change the stream to be in ULTRA HD or FULL HD or even lower -- and that option is not available in the player?

And Netflix acts by itself to select that during playback, using its so called complex algorithm, without user consent? And the user doesn't get to choose it easily, in the player itself?

Even though ULTRA HD may be available for a given video, what if a user wants to stream it in just HD, and not even in FULL HD? What if the user wants to stream the next video in ULTRA HD? And the next one in FULL HD?

They need to access the general Settings screen to do that -- every freaking time? That is some swell versatility!

There is quite some assumption here by Netflix -- that a user will ONLY want the highest possible video quality (or just ONE preferred video quality) for all videos? What if a user wants to preserve data by streaming in low resolution for a video they think is unimportant? What if they want to stream the next video, one that is important to them, in a higher resolution of their choice?

Are we saying, that Netflix will do its own thing unless we get into the Settings screen every damn time?

This is neither complex, nor versatile. This is assumption. This is 'not giving an easy choice'. This is plain stupidity!

dude, it only playbacks 4k,1080p on certified devices and not all devices/browser.

Netflix is definitely not for indians who appreciate quantity over quality. It is premium service aimed at non data conscious . (y)
you are free whine about it....

EDIT: other OTT services claim 1080p but the bitrate is minuscule compared to 1080p in netflix ranging from 5Mbps to 15Mbps. UHD only starts at 25Mbps.... so other OTT including Prime can never stand a chance next to Netflix.
