Unfortunately, they have no plans for optical fiber expansion in the foreseeable future.
Optical fiber deployment costed them way more money than this new airfiber deployment costs considering it's done at tower level only. Furthermore, airfiber has lesser maintenance for Jio O&M (operations & maintenance) team, and optical fiber wire cuts and splicing was a nightmare to them. To get rid of these troubles they have stopped deploying optical fiber. This is what I was told while discussing this million rupees question with a local Jio employee.
Though I totally agree that the internet quality can not be the same on optical fiber vs. airfiber but from what I understand Jio thinks that regular home customers need only some basic browsing experience + entertainment (OTT/TV etc). Their airfiber is able to achieve that. They might not consider to invest for the negligible amount of tech savvy users that are present on these tech forums and elsewhere in our country. Afterall, Jio is a company aiming to make higher profits every year and they will choose anything that costs them less maintenance costs as long as they are able to provide similar fiber kind of service though it.
