Hi Guys,
As some of you might be aware, my S7 edge gave up couple of days ago and per the service center guys it costs 14k to repair. So I wanted to buy a new phone instead. I searched for a decent option around 15k and instantly liked Nokia 6.1 Plus. The online reviews were also decent for this mobile, so I went ahead and bought it on Thursday's flash sale.
Price: 15999 INR
I received the phone today and here are the initial impressions. I ordered the blue color variant. The back and front are in black color for both blue and black variants, the difference only in the frame, it's blue frame for blue variant and black for black variant. The phone looks extremely stylish for this price with glass back and notch design on the front. The notch is relatively smaller compared to several other notches in the market. The phone feels light in the hand and due to the frame, it feels easy to handle. However, back side is extremely slippery and a case is must. I did get a case and full glass on the front installed, which costed another 550 INR.
The software is stock android (Oreo 8.1.0) and bloat free as it runs on Android one. Display color reproduction is very good. Touch response is very good and the phone is lag free. It has a fingerprint scanner on the back and it works Ok. Need to check how long the battery lasts after installing and using all the apps. As expected at this price range, camera didn't perform great in the night. I guess it should do Ok under Day light.
Issues/Bugs:
1. There is no way to display the battery percentage on the status bar, Nokia missed it in the software and I guess they will provide this in future
2. Hide notch option was available in the earlier version of the software and they have removed it recently (Read this online). They should add this back in a future as there is lot of backlash on this decision.
3. Lag while performing normal operations like scrolling, opening apps and switching between apps. This looks to be a problem with Software optimization as the device has decent processor and RAM. Nokia should look into this. (Resolved by factory reset)
4. Back button behavior is incorrect. It does a double back instead of doing single back in may applications which is annoying. Especially when you are using a shopping app and applied certain filters, when you go and check the details of an item under that criteria and click back all the filters are lost. We need to start from the scratch again. This is very annoying bug!! (Resolved by factory reset)
