This is disastrous. It is a justified reason that the AGR terms were within the telecom license but the telcos chose to ignore it but can someone answer the question:-

1. What is the problem for government in providing few years moratorium for payments? It is almost certain that Vodafone Idea will declare bankruptcy rather than paying the amount in lump sum.

2. What about the PSUs who will be bankrupt in similar fashion?

3. What about the thousands of employees who will be unemployed all of the sudden. People are only focusing here on telcos but many PSUs are also facing similar perils.

4. Will duopoly help India in any way when even government has admitted that India is at least 3 private player market.

5. This will drag India's reputation further down the drain more than it already is. Economy is facing some great perils and this will add fuel to already burning fire.

6. What about the PSU banks that have huge exposure to Vodafone Idea's debt? India is still struggling with astronomical NPA quantities.

7. Unethical behavior was followed by telcos. No doubt about that but all businesses find loopholes to save bucks. That is what business is. Neither Vodafone nor Idea care about the telco anymore if it goes into bankruptcy. They have already wrote down all investment and would not invest anymore. The biggest looser will be the government & the Indian public.

I
People supporting vodafone idea to shut down, some info for you guys. Vodafone is the biggest fdi investor in india. If it shuts shop in india no other investor will dare to invest in India. Our economy is already going from bad to worse. It will literally kill it.
It is about only telecom sector

does voda-idea & airtel deposit any amount before yesterday mid night -any news ?
Airtel- No. They would deposit 10k crores till 20th feb and rest by 17th March
Vodafone-Idea- Board will meet today. Decisions most likely to be taken is to make provision to pay principle if the tax refunds is adjusted against the liability. They may also file for bankruptcy as a last retort.

they can easily bring money from other source of business, kumar birla himself & uk vodafone are too rich. Why are they playing with govt & customers from last 14 years ? They can easily invest some capital from investor also

Telecom companies won't get input tax credit refunds.
