Vodafone Idea pays up another Rs 1,000 crore to DoT towards AGR dues

Vodafone Idea on Saturday in a BSE filing stated that it had paid up a further sum of Rs 1,000 crore to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) towards AGR dues on 17th July 2020. The company has deposited the money in line with the last hearing held by the Hon’ble Supreme Court in June 2020.

Vodafone Idea in its filing stated that the company has now paid an aggregate amount of Rs 7,854 crores toward the AGR dues having earlier deposited Rs 6,854 crores in 3 tranches. The deposit of Rs 1,000 crores is in line with the Supreme Court’s order in June.

The court in the last hearing held on 18th June, 2020 had stated, “We have requested the telecom operators to file audited Balance Sheets, for the last 10 years including for the Calender year ending 31.3.2020 as well as the Income Tax Returns and the particulars of AGR deposited during the last 10 years and we have also requested to make payments of reasonable amount also to show their bonafides, before the next date of hearing.”
