Due to the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown in the country, many public places to remain shut, including malls and movie theaters. While several Bollywood movies have been postponed indefinitely, few filmmakers have decided to release movies directly on an over-the-top (OTT) platform, skipping the theatrical release.
Here are the list movies that will be released directly on OTT platform:
1. Gulabo Sitabo (Hindi)
Gulabo Sitabo is a comedy-drama movie directed by Shoojit Sircar, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles. The movie is releasing on Amazon Prime Video on June 12, 2020.
2. Shakuntala Devi (Hindi)
It is a biographical movie based on the life of Shakuntala Devi, directed by Anu Menon, starring Vidya Balan in the lead role. The movie will be released on Amazon Prime Video.
3. Ponmagal Vandhal (Tamil)
Ponmagal Vandhal is a Tamil legal drama movie directed by J.J. Fredrick, featuring Jyothika and R. Parthiban. The movie releases on Amazon Prime Video on May 29, 2020.
4. French Biryani (Kannada)
French Biryani is a comedy movie directed by Pannaga Bharana, featuring Danish Sait, Sal Yusuf, and Pitobash in lead roles. The movie is set to release on Amazon Prime Video on July 24, 2020.
5. Penguin (Tamil and Telugu)
Penguin is a drama movie directed by Eshavar Karthic, featuring Keerthy Suresh in lead. The movie will release on Amazon Prime Video on June 19, 2020.
6. Law (Kannada)
The movie is directed by Raghu Samarth and features Ragini Chandran, Siri Prahlad, and Mukhyamantri Chandru. The movie will release on Amazon Prime Video on June 26, 2020.
7. Sufiyum Sujatayum (Malayalam)
The movie is directed by Naranipuzha Shanavas and stars Aditi Rao Hydari and Jayasuruya. The movie will be released on Amazon Prime Video soon.
8. Artemis Fowl (English)
The movie Artemis Fowl is directed by Kenneth Branagh and featuring Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, and Josh Glad. The movie will release on Disney+ Hotstar on June 12, 2020.
9. Hamilton
Hamilton is a musical drama movie directed by Thomas Kail and written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The movie is releasing on Disney+ Hotstar on July 3, 2020.
There are few other movies rumored to release on Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar. Anurag Basu’s movie- Ludo, featuring Abhishek Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pankaj Tripathi, and Rohit Suresh is reportedly releasing on Netflix. The movie Jhund is also rumored to release on Netflix. The movie is directed by Nagraj Manjule and features Amitabh Bachchan, Akash Thosar, and Rinku Rajguru.
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is a biopic of Gunjan Saxena directed by Sharan Sharma, featuring Janhvi Kapoor, Angad Bedi, and Pankaj Tripathi. This movie is also said to release on Netflix. While the movie Laxmi Bomb starring Akshaya Kumar, and Mimi starring Kriti Sanon and Pankaj Tripathi may release directly on Disney+ Hotstar.
