Microsoft recently added the support for Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as a payment method on the Xbox devices for customers in India. Now, the company has enabled the UPI payment method on the Microsoft Store for Windows users in the country. UPI is a popular and convenient digital payment system in India that allows users to send and receive money or make payments directly from their bank accounts using a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) or a QR code.

With the addition of UPI, users in India can now easily purchase games, apps, and subscriptions, including Microsoft 365 and Xbox Game Pass, from the Microsoft Store using their preferred UPI app, such as Amazon Pay, Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, and BHIM. Previously, users were limited to using their credit or debit card, and only select cards worked on Microsoft Store.

To use UPI as a payment method, Windows or Xbox users in India need to select UPI as the payment method while making a purchase. Then, they are required to enter their VPA and click the save button. Once the VPA is verified and saved, users can use it to purchase apps and subscriptions on the Microsoft Store. Lastly, they will be redirected to their bank’s website or app, where they can confirm the payment.

This is not the first time Microsoft has added the support for UPI payments in its products and services in India. In September 2023, Microsoft integrated UPI payment and Net banking support for Azure and Microsoft 365 Business customers in the country.
