Meta-owned photo-sharing social media platform Instagram has introduced a subscription feature under a new test to let creators get paid for their content. The company was working on this feature for a while and now it’s available for a few select creators in the United States.
Initially, in the early testing stage, only 10 US-based creators have got the ability to offer their followers paid access to exclusive Instagram Live videos and Stories. The paid subscribers will also receive a special purple badge to give them easy recognition and highlight among regular users in the comments section and creators’ inboxes.
“Over time, we hope to expand these features because it’s important that subscriptions are integrated throughout the entire Instagram experience,” Instagram chief Adam Mosseri said in a video posted on Twitter.
Creators will be able to select a price point on their own for access to their exclusive content based on how much they believe the worth of their content. Eight price points will be available to choose from, starting at $0.99 per month and going as high as $99.99 per month.
According to Instagram, this feature will not only help creators make a living but also help them in forming a deeper bond with their followers and boost engagement. Paid subscribers will get early access to subscriber-only content, like Stories saved as Highlights and also get instant alerts to exclusive broadcasts.
