The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has directed all ministries and departments to mandatorily utilize the services of BSNL and MTNL. The Government of India has approved the mandatory utilization of capacities of BSNL and MTNL for internet, broadband, landline, and leased line requirements.

The diktat will be applicable to all Ministries, Departments of Government of India, Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSEs), Autonomous Bodies among others that are under the Central Government.

The note has been issued by DoT’s Jitin Bansal, Director (PSU Affairs) on 12th October in consultation with the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance and with the approval of the competent authority. The office memorandum has been marked to Secretaries of all Ministries and Departments under the Central Government.

The order will come as a boost to BSNL and MTNL who have been losing customers rapidly with BSNL loosing 1.5 lakh connections in July according to TRAI report.
