Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3 was among the most popular smartphones in the past year. The company sold over 3.6 million units of the smartphone that further helped it become number one online smartphone brand in India. Now with the launch of the Redmi Note 4, Xiaomi not only hopes to replicate the feat, but also try and double the sales this year.

In an interview with ETtech, Xiaomi India head Manu Jain revealed that the company is aiming to sell as many as 7 million units of the Redmi Note 4 this year. The aim for the company is to also become the “number one in overall smartphone sales volume perspective in India in 3-5 years.”

Jain also revealed Xiaomi’s plans to ramp up its manufacturing plans in India. In 2016, Jain said, over three-fourths of the phones sold by Xiaomi were made in India. This year, the number is set to increase, and Jain said, “We are looking to open one or two new factories with similar capacities to double or triple our capacities either at Sri City itself or elsewhere in the country with Foxconn.” Jain also confirmed that Xiaomi will “continue to invest hundreds of millions of dollars on manufacturing, warehouses, logistics, call centres and service centres in India.”

Last year, Xiaomi surpassed $1 billion (Rs 6,700 crore) in revenues, and the company’s affordable Redmi series played a big hand in the achievement. The Redmi Note 3 specially became among the most talked-about devices, and thanks to its popularity, Xiaomi managed to sell the highest number of Redmi Note 3 units in any given quarter in India.

With the new Redmi Note 4, Xiaomi is sticking to the same theme of offering enticing specifications and features at a pocket-friendly price tag. We reviewed the Redmi Note 4, and found it to be yet again among the best smartphones you can buy in the sub-Rs 15,000 segment. While early signs are positive, It however remains to be seen if Xiaomi can really emulate the success of the Redmi Note 3 with the Redmi Note 4.

They should have stock first. Only then they can target for it. At 2 Pm the sale started, I saw sold out in less than 10 secs. It's a scam...
