The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has today released a consultation paper on “Tariff Issues of Telecom Services”. The authority had floated this consultation paper so that all the stakeholders in the value chain can get an opportunity to fully participate in the deliberations and give their views on such crucial issues affecting consumer interest.

The written comments on the issues raised in the consultation paper are invited from the stakeholders by 17th January 2020 and counter-comments by 31st January 2020.

Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Jio Tariff Might Increase Further Over New Trai Floor Pricing Consultation Paper.
Trai said that the telecom operators approached DoT for setting a minimum price for data and voice services, and the same has been forwarded to the regulator now.

All this makes perfect sense. Suddenly we all are worried about the industry performance and viability. A simple question - why did these same bodies allow Jio to launch with 0 tariff for calls, data, roaming back in Aug'2016? Didn't they anticipate that this will severely affect the telecom industry? Looks like a hand-in-glove attempt to make Jio the largest subscriber base.

Competition commission of India conveniently dismissed the case against Jio, and allowed them to offer 0 tariff.

It is just that if you offer all these things to the customer, then affect the industry, and then start thinking about the industry- it is certainly the wrong way out.

TRAI process has started immediately after decision to continue 6 paise per minute IUC for a year.
Airtel is in the lead , asking TRAI for ARPU of minimum Rs.300 per month.
That means increase of 150% on current increased rates of over 42% as per Airtel.
Airtel's current ARPU is around Rs.130.
Both Airtel & Voda/idea are pressurizing the TRAI for minimum floor price for voice calls per minute & data charges.
That means a operator can not charge below that level. So be ready for paying for voice calls too.

They have not stopped here .
Mathews representing COAI, which includes Airtel , voda/idea & Jio ( but with out Jio support) wants floor price to increase every two years.

So finally government bulging under AVOID pressure.
Systematic loot through (now official cartel )will be in action from next year onwards.
AVOID will recover penalty & interest of its past wrong doings from us and to pay to the government.
First they have officially robbed the consumers with high call & data rates and government of its taxes .
AVOID did not make provision for losses while they were earning huge profits through out the years.

Can someone give a direct link to this consultation paper?

Also, get ready for a "distruption" (in a mocking way of course) in data & voice prices now - just like how they "standardised" the satellite TV channel pricing last year. "To provide quality of service for ever increasing data consumption need requires a lot of investment" is sufficient to understand what is the purpose of this paper :)

There is nothing but just we can pray that trai shouldn't introduced floor price, so that arpu not increase for poor general person, but trai should obey only mobile operators becoz they r giving revenues to the govt. There is no one except god who can hear the sadness & sympathy of poor people

TRAI was always follow us for keeping out of entertainment, which was already destroyed the TV Broadcasting industry with high floor price for free & pay channels and now on Telecom for hike in data prices.

Then Why did same bodies allow AVOID to Loot common people with Their extremely HIGH VOICE N data Charges for so many years before JIO ....If Charging Extreme HIGH rates for VOICE n Data and Looting "AAM AADAMI" is Fair for AVOID then I see nothing wrong In JIO giving ppl free data n voice for more then 90 days. .
