Chetan Sharma takes 1st hat-trick in World Cup

..
On this day in 1987, Chetan Sharma,
who was known for his ability to
surprise the batsman with slippery
pace took the first hat-trick in a
World Cup against New Zealand at
Nagpur. His victims were Ken
Rutherford, Ian Smith and Ewen
Chatfield. Interestingly, all of them
were castled.
India won the match comfortably on
the back of a stunning innings from
Sunil Gavaskar. ..Gavaskar's knock
surprised everyone, as he wasn't
known for quick scoring. It also
turned out to be the only century
that Gavaskar compiled in ODIs.
