23 Facts about Anil Kumble- the Jumbo match winner

Former Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez turns 36 today.

18th October 1968
..

Birth of the first Test wonder
..

A bespectacled Narendra Hirwani
spun a web around West Indies in his
debut Test in Chennai in 1987-88.
The leg-spinner was born on this day
in 1968. He was still in his teens when
he came up to bowl against the likes
of Desmond Haynes, Viv Richards,
Richie Richardson and Carl Hooper.
Call it the innocence of youth, but
Hirwani remained totally unfazed by
the occasion and went on to collect
dazzling match-figures of 16/136,
which still remains the best
performance by a debutant.

20th October 1978
..

Birth of the revolutionary opener

..
Virender Sehwag was not just a
crowd-puller but a batsman who
changed the way openers were
viewed in Tests. An accidental
opener, Sehwag never felt the need
to change his natural attacking game
and thereby sent terrors down the
opposition ranks. For people doubting
his ability to succeed with the
method, Sehwag replied with two
Test triple centuries and hundreds in
England, South Africa and Australia.
He has the highest individual score by
an Indian in Tests and the highest-
ever individual ODI score to boot. A
legend in his own right.

Birth of an England legend, Geoff Boycott

..
Known best for his dour batting style,
Geoff Boycott was also an epitome of
technique. His detractors accuse of
him of playing selfishly and he was
also dropped after scoring a double
hundred in a Test once after being
accused of playing too slowly.
Boycott later made a name for
himself as a television commentator
and has since enjoyed a successful
career after his playing days.

Indian first-class cricketing all-rounder Rajat Bhatia turns 37 today.
