8th January 1981 ..
India get bowled for 63 in Sydney
..
On this day in 1981, in a
Benson&Hedges World Series match
played at the Sydney Cricket Ground,
Australian captain, Greg Chappell,
blew away the Indian batting line up
with his medium-pacers and ended
with career best ODI figurs that read
9.5-5-15-5. India capitulated to their
then-lowest total in ODI cricket - 63
with only Gundappa Viswanath and
Roger Binny managing double-digit
scores. Chappell's victims included
Sunil Gavaskar, Yashpal Sharma,
Roger Binny, Karsan Ghavri and Dilip
Doshi. In response, Australia cantered
to the target in the 21st over with the
Greg Chappell top scoring with 33.
India's total of 63 remained their
lowest total in ODIs for 19 years before
they were bowled out for 54 in an ODI
against Sri Lanka in Sharjah.
