Because they are not here to make profits. What if their processor makes their business profitable? They need to make sure it's below average.

Why can't Micromax make one?

They dont have the R&D to do that. Infact except Samsung, Apple and Huawei, no other smartphone manufacturer has the ability to create Processors, though Google, Microsoft etc have teams working on them.

They were the "innovators" of Indian mobiles. What were they doing old these years? Others like Sony and Asus makes various products. Being a mobile brand for around 2 decades. Shouldn't they have started already? After all they were market leaders at a time.

It takes many year of experience, some billions of dollar and government support to be that large like Sony or Samsung. See Samsung and their R&D spending. It is more than GDP of some Indian state. How much Micromax is investing in R&D compared to them? With current mindset of Indian brands like stealing IPs, no R&D, no one will survive when they will face brutal competition from Chinese brand.

What's so Indian about these Mediatek processors?

We don't have any "Indian Processors" that's why they call it 'Cheeni Kum' the kum means less so it's less chinese.
