Everyone knows that the most successful teams' skipper did play a major part in MI's success throughout the years. Honestly, Virat did horrible captaincy with RCB and he didn't even utilize his players as much as other teams did. But for India, it was okay.
Still doesn't take away the fact how poor his "captaincy" is this season...

I don't see anything poor in his captaincy this year as you do.

Only thing poor this year is the team combination and Rohit is lacking enough arsenal to utilize, as compared to last season. MI are not being hammered horribly also. They are also able to take matches to the end, MIvCSK is a prime example and it was sheer brilliance of MSD which took away the match. In the first match as well, it was sealed till the moment David dropped a catch.

Rohit captaincy not as worst in this season but the main issue his batting form , bumrah out of form , IK inconsistent batting not much players in team to alter

He badly missing QDK , Pandya's & Boult

If the team is like below surely Mi is the champion this year too

Rohit
QDK
Bravis
SKY
Hardik
Tillak
Pollard
Kurnal
Chahar
Bumrah
Boult

Imagine this team in the ground wow 😎👍

Given the sh#tshow from the previous match, I don't expect RCB to chase this...
Hasaranga drop eventually proved costly..

Playing only 2 overseas at times when they have all 7 available, Benching Tim David and preferring Pollard over him, benching M Ashwin after not getting a good run like what MI usually gives to its players, Playing bowlers like Basil Thampi (remember his 70 run contribution to the opposition when he was playing for SRH) and Tymal Mills (2017 RCB, nothing more to add) over an Arjun Tendulkar (who was bowling good yorkers in the nets)

All very equivalent to the "captaincy" of RCB's former skipper in 2017 and 19...
