IPL-10 to get eight opening ceremonies

To celebrate the 10th year of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and engage more fans, all the eight teams could get the chance to stage an opening ceremony on the day of their first home game. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is said to have put forward this proposal to the teams during a half-a-day workshop in Bengaluru on Tuesday (February 21).

Sources said the board will foot the expenses of those eight ceremonies. "This year is special because it's the 10th season and the teams were told about the plan for having 'opening ceremonies at home' during the interaction," a source told TOI. A board official confirmed the move and said "the picture will get clearer after the tender process is complete".

The team owners expressed their wish to engage more fans and make IPL bigger and better than the previous years. It was revealed that the IPL franchises were satisfied that there was no BCCI office bearers to take a call. "For the first time in nine years, the teams felt (at the auction) that the league belongs to them and this is very special feeling," a team official, who attended the workshop, said.

5 reasons why MS Dhoni was replaced as captain of Rising Pune Supergiants

This reason for this step as revealed by the owner of RPS, Sanjiv Goenka was that they wanted a younger captain to lead the team.

Though it seems a valid reason but, apparently, it was one of the many reasons behind MS Dhoni's sacking as skipper.

In an interview given to a Bengali daily, Sangbad Pratidin, the owner highlighted the following reasons behind his decision.

The team didn't perform well in the debut season, so he wanted someone to create winning possibilities, hence, Steve Smith was a good choice.

The World Cup winning captain was also not easily accessible and all communication had to go through his agent.

The ex-Indian skipper skipped most team meetings and used to take opposite decisions during the match.

The skipper also used to avoid attending net sessions and missed out tracking the growth of young players, including overseas player like Adam Zampa.

Dhoni is known to back young players, even when they fall out-of-form, hence did the same during his time at RPS. Dhoni also pushed in for various non-cricketing matters which the owners didn't like.

The cricketer from Jharkhand was informed about this decision over a meeting with the CEO in January and he accepted the decision.
