Apple event invites hint at 'iPhone 5' debut

Apple on Tuesday invited members of the media to a September 12 event in San Francisco for what is expected to be the debut of a new-generation iPhone.

Email invitations bore the cryptic message, "It's almost here," and a large number "12" casting a shadow that appeared to be the number five, suggesting that the event would spotlight the long-anticipated iPhone 5.

Leaks and rumors portray the new iPhone as having a larger touch-screen than its predecessor and that it will be available by the end of the month.

With the confirmed Apple iPhone 5 event upcoming, the new iPhone 5 release date appears to be set. Now fans are even more interested in learning about all the new iPhone features for the upcoming 6th generation Apple smartphone. There have been a lot of rumors and discussions about the new gadget since Apple unveiled iOS 6 back at the WWDC in June.

An article from earlier today at Business Insider asks "What is the iPhone 5's killer feature going to be?" The article discusses the expected changes for the new iPhone 5, but questions what the new model will have over earlier handsets in the Apple smartphone lineup.

Fans are already aware the new "the iPhone 5 is going to be thinner and taller than its predecessor," and the new model is expected to have "a redesigned dock connector and 4G LTE data speeds." Additional rumors say there will be newly redesigned ear buds for the upcoming iPhone 5 launch.

The Apple iPhone 5 event was confirmed by the press invites for September 12th which reveals a number 12 casting a shadow of the number 5. If this is the real deal, then perhaps Apple really is planning to name their next smartphone design the iPhone 5 after all.

If things go as they normally do with Apple releases, the new iPhone 5 release date should be set for around September 21st. As for the "killer feature," the world will have to wait for the big unveiling on September 12th.

Apple has announced the iPhone 5, featuring a 4in display, new A6 processor and 4G connectivity for super fast mobile internet.
In what was probably the least surprising press conference of the year and bringing to an end more than a year of speculation, Apple CEO Tim Cook took to the stage at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco to reveal the new iPhone.
The screen is half an inch bigger than all previous iPhones to date and has a resolution of 640 x 1136 and a Retina pixel density of 326 per inch - there's 44 percent more colour saturation than the iPhone 4S, too.
Using in-cell technology means that Apple has been able to integrate the display and touch sensitive panel into one piece, making this the thinnest iPhone ever.
Inside, Apple has given the iPhone 5 a new A6 processor, which is claimed to be even more powerful than the A5X seen in the third generation iPad and twice as fast as the A5 in the iPhone 4S and offer graphics that are twice as fast, also, while measuring 22 percent smaller than the A5

Unlocked Apple iPhone 5 Prices for UK Revealed​

While Apple has revealed only the Contract-only pricing for the Apple iPhone 5 in the US, the company is going to sell unlocked versions of the iPhone 5 at launch in the UK. Interestingly the base model starts from 529 pounds an increase of 30 pounds compared to the iPhone 4S. One point to note is that the price includes a 20% VAT or Sales Tax. If you were thinking of getting the iPhone 5 from UK , 529 GBP at current pound levels is about Rs.47000 approx in terms of the Indian Rupee.

The iPhone 5 features a 4 inch Retina display and a lot of changes under the hood including a faster A6 chip. The new iPhone also support faster LTE networks but only a few operators will be supporting the device at launch. The device also uses a smaller nano SIM card which means that your existing microSIM card won’t work in the iPhone 5.

The reason we are talking about the UK prices for the iPhone 5 is because , going by the past history , the pricing for the iPhone in India has been close to the UK pricing.

The 16 GB version will cost 539 GBP , 32 GB version will cost 639 GBP and 64 GB version will cost 739 GBP. Any one here plan to buy the iPhone 5 from the UK ? Pre-orders start online on September 14 and retail store availability starts on September 21.

Apple iPhone 5 Singapore Prices are Revealed , starts from S$948​

Singapore is one of the few countries getting the iPhone 5 on launch day September 21 and Singapore is one of those markets where Apple directly sells unlocked iPhones on it’s online store to consumers. The 16GB iPhone 5 is expected to cost 948 SGD (Singapore Dollars). Apple will start taking Pre-orders on September 14.


The 16 GB version will cost 948 SGD or Rs.42600 approx , 32GB version will cost 1088 SGD or Rs.49000 approx , 64GB version will cost 1238 SGD or Rs.55600 approx. The above prices include GST so you should not have to pay any extra sales tax.If you are going to Singapore on a vacation and planning to pick up the iPhone 5 there and want to claim GST refund , just be warned that online purchases are not eligible for GST refunds.

We are assuming these phones are unlocked versions going by the previous iPhone launches in that country. The iPhone 5 will be available in 2 colours -White , Black but Apple is calling it white & silver , black & slate due to new design.

Apple has not revealed the price for the unlocked versions in the US but the UK prices are out. The iPhone 5 will be available first in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan,Singapore, the US and the UK

Indian carriers place orders for Nano SIMs, iPhone 5 launch could be earlier than exp

The iPhone 5 might launch in India earlier than anticipated. Indian carriers have started placing orders for Nano SIM cards, which is currently being used exclusively in the iPhone 5. According to multiple sources, Airtel and Vodafone have already placed orders for Nano SIM cards. Airtel is sourcing them from Oberthur and Vodafone from Syscom. Aircel, which along with Airtel has been Apple’s carrier partner in India, is also said to be placing its orders. Sources tell us that almost every carrier would bring Nano SIM cards and make it more widely available than Micro SIMs as users would no longer be able to cut a regular SIM card to convert it into Nano SIM. We are also told that Apple might launch the iPhone 5 in India as early as mid-October. This is in stark contrast to what we had earlier heard about it getting launched closer to Diwali. It seems Apple has shifted gears in the past week or so and India could be in the third wave of launch countries. At the moment Apple has announced it will launch in nine countries on September 21 followed by 22 more countries on September 28. Apple intends to launch the iPhone 5 in 100 countries by the end of this year.

Apple has also beefed up its sales team in India specifically for the iPhone, iPod and iPad in the past couple of months. For the first time, Apple India will be distributing the iPhone along with its carrier partners, which means it will be more widely available than before.
