Good news from Railways for 12 lakh Mumbai passengers on Harbour line, trains set to speed up

Central Railway (CR) will soon increase speed of trains on this line that connects Mumbai with Navi Mumbai. The CR authorities are working towards increasing the speed of trains from 80kmph to 105kmph. "We have prepared a proposal for increasing the speed to 105kmph between Mankhurd and Panvel stations. We are awaiting further permissions," said SK Jain, Divisional Railway Manager (Mumbai), Central Railway

1. AC Tatkal tickets booking will start from 10 am and non-AC ticket booking to begin at 11 am. You have to book the ticket a day before the travelling date.

2. If a train is more than three hours late, the passenger can claim complete refund of fare and Tatkal charges.

3. A passenger can claim a full refund if the train’s route is diverted and the passenger doesn’t want to travel on that route.

4. A passenger can claim refund on Tatkal tickets if the train’s route is diverted and the boarding station/destination or both are not on the diverted route.

5. A passenger can claim full refund if he/she is accommodated in lower class and doesn’t wish to travel in the lower class and the passenger has paid the difference if he/she agrees to travel in the lower class.

Till now, the most powerful electric engine in India was of 6,000 HP. As part of the joint venture with Indian Railways, Alstom will also maintain the super-powered double section locomotives for a period of 11 years. The WAG-12 class electric locomotives will boast of a horse-power of 12,000 and will be able to haul up to 6,000 tonnes. Alstom in a joint venture with Indian Railways is manufacturing 800 electric locomotives in Bihar's Madhepura.

Now, chatbots to address train passengers' queries

Indian Railways is exploring the use automated chatbots, a first for the rail sector, so as to respond faster to train-related queries and enhance customer experience.

The possibility of use of chatbots were showcased at a recent railway conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and a high-level committee is being constituted to take it forward -- in close coordination with one of the software giants -- Microsoft or Oracle.
