Research indicates that India will become the third largest smartphone market by 2017; phone makers are launching affordable smartphones to tap buyers in rural towns and cities.

ESPNcricinfo has embraced mobile as a way to connect with fans since the early days of the medium’s development, leading to sustained leadership that has accelerated in recent years - with more than 800 percent growth in visits to ESPNcricinfo on mobile devices since 2010.

ESPNcricinfo has developed a completely new and improved mobile website, which is currently in a public beta test period. Launching fully on 19th November, the site utilizes HTML5 and interactive designs that create an enhanced user experience across smartphone platforms (ex: iOS, Android, Asha) as well as J2ME and entry-level java phones (ex: Nokia S40 devices). The content is visibly richer, with a blend of live updates and scores, as well as news, blogs, records, statistics and features.

The mobile website will deliver better performance for the user thanks to a faster, more dynamic platform, and will include new features such as the ability to easily share content on social networks as well as the ability for users to view and post comments.

Developed by ESPNcricinfo’s in-house product team in India, the site will give fans anywhere, anytime access to the breadth and depth of ESPNcricinfo’s industry-leading coverage of the sport.

“The aim was to provide improved performance, design and content experience that takes into account the changes in mobile and that is optimized across device screens and platforms.,” said Gaurav Thakur, Director, Mobile Products & Revenue,ESPN Digital Media, India. He further adds, “We want to be where our fans are, and in an on-the-go way that is engaging and makes use of newer technologies to provide the best for cricket fans.”
