KOLKATA: Maitree Express which
travels between Kolkata and Dhaka
was attacked near Iswardihi station
in Bangladesh on Sunday afternoon.

2.55pm local time (2.25pm IST)
when three petrol bombs were
hurled at the train's engine while it
was passing through Fateh
Muhammudpur Gorosthan in Pabna
district.
 
HYDERABAD: The University of
Hyderabad (UoH) on Friday reeled
under panic as the authorities
scrambled to distribute preventive
medicines to curb the spread of
swine flu after post-doctoral fellow
Sudha Nirmala, succumbed to the
infection.
"When we heard that someone on
campus had died, we really panicked
and decided to take masks from the
camp, being organised in the
university," says Gaurav Tiku, a post-
graduate student, referring to the
drive by a student union, where
5,000 masks were given to staffers
and students. The camp was
organised for two days in association
with a private hospital. Set up in
the university shopping complex, the
sheer number of people who came in
to collect the medicines reflects the
atmosphere of fear prevalent at the
varsity.
 
PATNA: The RJD, which has 24
members in Bihar assembly, on
Sunday reaffirmed its support to JD
(U) legislature party leader Nitish
Kumar and said he would succeed in
taking further the RJD chief Lalu
Prasad's agenda of strengthening
secular forces in Bihar.
"We in RJD firmly believe that Nitish
Kumar will be successful in
extending further Lalu Prasad's
attempts to strengthen and unite
secular forces in the state. Kumar
will also ensure all-round
development of the state, besides
implementing special welfare
schemes for the progress of dalits,
Mahadalits, backwards and
minorities as part of social justice
scheme of the grand alliance," RJD
spokesperson Ejaz Ahmad said.
Earlier in the day, dozens of RJD
functionaries, led by its state
president Ram Chandra Purbey,
called on Kumar at the latter's
residence here to congratulate him
on being elected as JD (U) LP leader.
Purbey also handed over a bouquet
to Kumar on behalf of the RJD.
Purbey said Nitish Kumar being a
very experienced politician, would
not only thwart the BJP's bid to
create political instability in Bihar
but also push the state to achieve
new heights on the development
front.

(Reuters) - Launch of a SpaceX rocket
with a U.S. weather satellite bound
for deep space was called off
minutes before liftoff on Sunday due
to a technical problem, officials said.
Launch had been targeted for 6:10
p.m. EST (2310 GMT) from Cape
Canaveral Air Force Station in
Florida. But about 2.5 minutes
before liftoff, a problem cropped up
with an Air Force radar system
needed to track the rocket in flight.
The next opportunity to launch is
6:07 p.m. EST (2307 GMT) on
Monday, said NASA launch
commentator Michael Curie.

Amid deepening political
crisis in Bihar, Janata Dal (U) leader
Nitish Kumar on Monday met the
state's Governor and staked claim to
the chief minister's post and
paraded 130 MLAs from his party,
RJD and Congress who support him.
 
PATNA: A section of Rashtriya Janata
Dal MLAs made known their
disagreement with party chief Lalu
Prasad over his backing Nitish Kumar
as CM, and are now rooting for Jitan
Ram Manjhi's continuation in office.
"I will request the party and urge
Lalu Prasad to continue support to
Manjhi who hails from a Mahadalit
community," said RJD MLA
Raghavendra Pratap Singh on
Sunday. He said he would air his
views at the RJD legislature party
meeting on Monday.
 
NEW DELHI: Supreme Court refused
to entertain petition by former
telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran,
who wanted the Aircel-Maxis case
against him to be tried by a normal
court and not by 2G scam special
court.
