Rumblings within ruling JD(U) today
took a new turn with an
overwhelming majority of the party
MLAs electing Nitish Kumar as their
leader to replace rebel Jitan Ram
Manjhi as Chief Minister who made
an unsuccessful bid to recommend
dissolution of the Assembly.
Moving swiftly after a day of
dramatic developments, JD(U) chief
Sharad Yadav sought time from
Governor Kesrinath Tripathi for a
meeting. He is likely to stake claim
for formation of government under
Kumar after the Governor returns to
Patna on Monday morning.

Patna: As the political crisis in Bihar
deepens, JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar
is likely to stake a claim to form
government in Bihar on Sunday.
Nitish is also likely to hold a
meeting with the senior party
leaders in the state capital to
discuss the political situation.
Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister
Jitan Ram Manjhi is expected to
meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi
in the national capital at 5 pm
today.
Manjhi, who will be in New Delhi to
attend the NITI Aayog meeting, had
sought time to meet Modi yesterday.
The meeting is scheduled to take
place a day after Nitish was re-
elected as the legislature party
leader by 97 out of 115 MLAs of the
party.

on Sunday releasing details of the
understanding reached with the US
recently.
In a seven-page 'frequently asked
questions' dealing with contentious
issues including liability,
compensation and right of recourse
in case of nuclear mishap, the
External Affairs Ministry said the
understanding on the policy hurdles
were reached after three rounds of
discussions between the Indo-US
Nuclear Contact Group, which met
last in London, just three days
before President Barack Obama
arrived here on January 25.
 
Overseas investors have pumped in
nearly Rs 12,000 crore in Indian
capital markets in the first week of
this month following certain
measures taken by financial sector
regulators.
The latest inflow takes the
investment to more than Rs 45,000
crore ($7.35 billion) so far in 2015.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs)
bought shares worth Rs 4,702 crore
($761 million) between February 2
and 6, while they bought debt worth
Rs 7,059 crore ($1.14 billion), taking
the total investment to Rs 11,760
crore ($1.9 billion), latest data with
Central Depository Services Ltd
(CDSL) showed.

The crisis in Bihar's ruling JD-U
deepened further on Sunday with
chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi
meeting Prime Minister Narendra
Modi and his rival camp led by
Nitish Kumar deciding to parade
legislators at the Raj Bhavan on
Monday to stake claim to power.
Manjhi, hand-picked by Nitish Kumar
as his replacement last year after
the Lok Sabha polls, has refused to
quit. On Saturday he left for New
Delhi to attend the NITI Ayog
meeting on Sunday and then called
on Modi.
Janata Dal-United Bihar president
Vashsisht Narain Singh told IANS
that his party would form a new
government in the state under
Nitish Kumar's leadership with the
backing of the Congress and Lalu
Prasad's Rashtriya Janata Dal.
"We will parade 130 MLAs, including
those of the Congress and RJD,
before the governor Monday," he
said.
 
Exhorting chief ministers to
personally monitor factors slowing
projects, Prime Minister Narendra
Modi on Sunday asked states to bury
differences to boost growth, create
jobs and revive investment cycle.
He also suggested that an officer be
identified in state governments to
monitor and ensure a smooth
resolution of pending issues so as to
expedite projects implementation.
Addressing the first meeting of the
governing council of NITI Aayog, the
Prime Minister identified "alleviation
of poverty" as the biggest challenge
before the county and said the
newly formed body will forge a
model of co-operative and
competitive federalism".
