Discussion Coronavirus (COVID-19) Vaccination Drive Updates

Foreign tourists fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with Covaxin have been given the green light to enter the United States starting Nov. 8.

The Centers for Disease Control said the vaccine would be added to its list of acceptable vaccines for foreign travelers Wednesday after the World Health Organization granted Covaxin emergency use listing.

The last-minute addition comes less than one week before the U.S. launches its new travel system, which grants entry to foreign travelers who have received a vaccine that has been approved for emergency use by the U.S. Food and Drug administration or WHO.

Zydus Cadila's three-dose Covid vaccine ZyCoV-D is set to be included in the national anti-coronavirus inoculation programme this month with the Centre placing a purchase order with the Ahmedabad-based firm for one crore doses, official sources said on Sunday.

The UK government has said that India's Covaxin will be added to its list of approved COVID-19 vaccines for international travellers from November 22, meaning that those inoculated with the Bharat Biotech-manufactured jab will not have to self-isolate after arrival in England.

"More good news for Indian travellers to the UK. From 22 November travellers fully vaccinated with a COVID19 vaccine recognised by WHO for Emergency Use Listing, including Covaxin, will not have to self-isolate; so joining those fully vaccinated with Covishield," Alex Ellis, British High Commissioner to India, said on Twitter on Monday
