Here they are over priced. We can get 2 Mbps unlimited at Rs 460 including tax from private operators but BSNL is charging Rs 575 including tax for only 1 Mbps. It's shame on Digital India :dodgy

It looks overpriced, but you get landline too. Also, free calls to all numbers in India from 9PM to 7AM & on Sunday all day free.
(If you don't want a landline, then it might be costly. But in my experience BSNL is rarely down whereas pvt ones do face downtime, at least once in a month)
Pvt broadband cos generally have limited reach (targeted user group) & infrastructure, other staff costs are also less, so they can provide cheaper service.
