Airtel to shut down 3G networks across India by December 2019

2g cannot be shut down as there are still many ppl who are using basic handsets. Villagers and elderly people still stick to basic handsets and investing 500-1000 for new mobile is a very big thing for them. However still feel that this will change in next 5years. But shutting down 2g will be like disconnecting half of India. Also note that most of the POS machines in shops uses 2g only. So this will be a major setback for the whole economy.

But Airtel charges Rs.1.50 per minute for 2G basic paln users! ie 2.5 ps per sec unlike BSNL only charges 1 ps per Sec.

But Then if 2G continues ..those villagers or All 400 mn 2G users Will Remain Digitally unconnected...in era of Digital india...N also for poor ppl 2G charges are very HIGH.. decades old 1.5 rs per minute charges should not continue now any more..Old operators are doing injustice with their poor 2G users..

Airtel should partner with nokia and release volte based feature phones at subsidised rates. Mass campaign should be done to people to make them upgrade to 4G volte. But for this first they need a rock solid VoLTE like Jio.

Agreed but no one looks for customer's all they want is profit. That's the reason there are so many birds becoming extinct. Everyone is aware of it but no one will utter a word coz all we want is our comfort. We never look for the cost we are paying for getting those services.

I am sorry for being off topic it's the hard reality. Just imagine a world with corded phones nd pagers. Will u be able to sustain in it??? Once again sry for being old school mentalist but it's a fact and we are looking for comfort.

I would really prefer vowifi services as they are very much safe for us nd others around us. But sadly this will reduce the arp of the companies hence they are not switching to it.

Airtel discontinues 3G services in Kerala, upgrades 3G users to 4G

Then you should upgrade to 4g handset and 4g sim by visiting airtel store.
