City Union Bank suffered cyber hack via SWIFT system

India's City Union BankBSE 0.61 % said on Sunday that "cyber criminals" had hacked its systems and transferred nearly $2 million through three unauthorised remittances to lenders overseas via the SWIFT financial platform.

City Union said on Saturday it had been able to block one of the remittances, totalling $500,000, that was being sent through a Standard Chartered Bank account in New York to a Dubai-based lender.

A second transfer of 300,000 euros ($372,150) was routed through a Standard Chartered Bank account in Frankfurt to a Turkish account, although the Turkish lender had blocked the transfer from being finalised.

A third totalling $1 million was sent through a Bank of America account in New York to a China-based bank, which Kamakodi on Sunday identified as Zhejiang Rural Credit Cooperative Union in Hangzhou, China.

Brussels-based SWIFT has been urging banks to bolster security of computers used to transfer money since Bangladesh Bank lost $81 million in a February 2016 cyber heist that targeted central bank computers used to move funds.

English Premier League revenue bubble bursts

The sale of 160 games has raised £4.464 billion ($US6.2bn, $A7.8bn), compared with £5.14 billion for 168 fixtures from 2016 to 2019. The league will be looking to the sale of overseas rights to provide an upsurge in revenue for its 20 teams.

While remaining the biggest broadcaster of most games in Britain with four packages, Sky boasted how it was now paying 16 per cent less per fixture in its £3.579 billion, three-year deal to show 128 games per season. That equates to savings of almost £600 million for the European pay TV giant while showing an additional two games a year.

But while Sky’s price per game drops from £11 million to £9.3 million, BT had to agree to pay £9.2 million — up from £7.6 million — for one package of 32 games. The broadcaster, which was launched in 2012 by Britain’s former telephone monopoly, has lost 10 games.

The Premier League increased the number of games available for live broadcasting in Britain to 200, with only overseas channels able to air all 380 fixtures a year live in a bid to maintain high numbers of fans at stadiums.

Discussion TRAI sets Rs 50 lakh penalty per circle for violation of predatory pricing rules

NEW DELHI: To prevent a recurrence of an acrimonious war between India’s older telcos and new entrant Reliance Jio Infocomm due to a lack of clarity thus far on the issue.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai ), in its tariff order unveiled Friday, has said that predatory pricing will be determined on the basis of average variable cost and whether there is specific intention on the carrier’s part to reduce or kill competition. The regulator will however examine the issue on a case by case basis depending on the complaint it receives and it will be up to the telco to show that the tariff is not predatory.

Private bus owners to continue strike as talks fail

Private bus owners have decided to continue their indefinite strike as the talks with transport minister AK Saseendran at Kozhikode guest house failed.

The government did not agree with the bus owners' demands including an increase in the concession rates of students. Private bus operators began the state-wide indefinite strike from Friday demanding a hike in minimum bus fare to Rs 10. Though the Cabinet on Wednesday approved a hike in bus fare to Rs 8 from the current Rs 7, the bus operators said the increase is inadequate.

It's a daunting time for travelers as about 13,000 private buses staying off the roads.
