Airtel unveils Xstream Android TV plan at Rs 499 per year

50 days after Bharti Airtel made its Airtel Xstream (earlier Airtel TV) app available on the play store of Android TV, the telecom giant has now unveiled a new ‘Xstream Android TV Plan’ which will allow access to the app on Android TV platform.

Airtel unveils Xstream Android TV plan at Rs 499 per year

The ‘Xstream Android TV Plan’ is available at Rs 499 and will offer access to Airtel Xstream Premium for a period of 365 days. You can buy the plan from within the Airtel Xstream app wherein the listing has gone live recently. You can access Premium Movies, TV shows, and much more on Airtel Xstream with subscription of the plan.

While the app has been live on Android TV platform since May end, the access to it was restricted with Bharti Airtel back then stating that the access to Airtel Xstream on Android TV was only limited to Airtel Xstream Box and Airtel Xstream Fiber users.

Airtel prepaid and postpaid customers were back then unable to access content on the Android TV app of Airtel Xstream app. The newly introduced Android TV specific plan seems to be for Airtel’s prepaid and postpaid customers who were earlier unable to access the app on Android TV. The plan was spotted by an OnlyTech team member who is subscribed to an unlimited prepaid plan on Airtel.

Airtel Xstream app for Android TV however doesn’t have the option to stream live TV channels unlike the smartphone app or the web interface. It has a wide library of movies and TV shows.

Not worth it. Same shows except the ones from Curiosity Stream can be streamed for free via Vodafone Play which supports Chromecast and MX Player for TV.

I don’t get what Airtel is thinking here. Why put a premium paywall for their customers while competition is offering complimentary access.

Even Jio Cinema supports Chromecast and has an Android TV app as well. As for Curiosity Stream content, now even that has left Airtel Xstream, so it’s not at all worth paying the 499 for.
