In May 2023, WhatsApp, a popular instant messaging app owned by Meta, launched a new feature called Chat Lock to enhance the privacy and security of its users. Chat Lock allows users to hide their chats in a secure folder that can only be accessed using their device’s password or biometric. Now, the company rolling out a new feature called Secret Code that will enable users to create a custom password for their locked chats.

Secret Code will make it more difficult for anyone to access the hidden conversations, especially if the user shares their phone with someone else or loses their phone. Users can create their own unique passwords that are different from the ones they use to unlock their phones. This also provides an additional layer of privacy to locked chats.

Users will also have the option to hide the locked chats folder from their WhatsApp chat list, and they can only be accessed by typing the secret code in the search bar. However, if a user prefers to make chats visible in their chatlist, they can do so. Moreover, users no longer need to go to the chat’s settings to lock a new chat. They can simply long-press a new chat to lock it.

The Secret Code feature is gradually rolling out to users and will be available globally in the coming months.
