On Friday, WhatsApp released a new update for its app on Android and iOS platforms to further enhance the group voice calls feature. This update comes after the company increased the group voice call limit from 8 participants to 32 people.
The first feature gives the ability to mute other participants, it will come in handy when people forget to mute themselves which causes noise and disturbance in the group call. Now, it is also possible to send direct messages to individual participants for communicating something with them privately.
In an active group call, users can long press on the name card of a participant and a pop-up menu will appear on the bottom with an option to mute or message that individual. Participants can unmute themselves anytime, even after being muted through this option.
The maximum number of people allowed in WhatsApp group voice calls is 32 and it can be a bit difficult to keep track of when someone joined it. Hence, WhatsApp has added a banner which will be shown when an individual joins offscreen.
