Nokia has been selected as a major supplier by Reliance Jio in a multi-year deal that will see Nokia supply 5G RAN products from its AirScale portfolio. The new deal means that Nokia will now be supplying India’s three largest mobile operators.
The deal between Nokia and Reliance Jio will see the introduction of 5G standalone (SA) network across India. Nokia will supply equipment including remote radio heads (RRH), base stations, and high-capacity 5G massive MIMO antennas to Reliance Jio. The 5G RAN equipment will support different spectrum bands and self organizing network software.

Reliance Jio is planning on deploying a 5G standalone network that will interwork with its 4G network enabling the telco to deliver advanced 5G services including M2M communications, network slicing, and ultra-low latency.

Jio earlier this month rolled out its 5G beta trial services for Jio users in 4 cities – Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Varanasi from Dussehra. he beta trial for other cities will progressively be announced as cities prepare.
