Microsoft has announced the Surface Pro 9, Surface Pro 9 5G, and Surface Laptop 5 at its Surface October event. All devices run on Windows 11 Home edition out of the box and include Microsoft 365 apps 30-day trial and a month of free Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Further, the laptops feature a 10-point multi-touch display, Windows Hello authentication, dual far-field studio microphones, and supports Dolby Atmos technology.
Surface Pro 9 specifications
The Surface Pro 9 features a 13-inch PixelSense display (2256 x 1504 pixels) with up to 120Hz refresh rate, a 3:2 aspect ratio, a 1200:1 contrast ratio, and 10-point multi-touch support. The laptop is powered by either a 12th Gen Intel Core i5-1235U or an i7-1255U processor based on the Intel EVO platform. It comes with Firmware TPM 2.0 security processor, up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM, Intel Iris Xe graphics, and up to 1TB of removable internal SSD.
Surface Pro 9 sports a full-HD 1080p front-facing camera that supports Windows Hello face authentication. It also has a 10-megapixel rear-facing camera that can record full-HD and UHD videos. The laptop is equipped with dual far-field studio microphones and 2W stereo speakers that support Dolby Atmos technology. Further, the device can deliver up to 15.5-hours of battery life on typical usage.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.1, two USB Type-C ports with USB4/ Thunderbolt support, one Surface Connect port, and one Surface Connect port. The laptop measures 287 x 209 x 9.3 mm and weighs 879 grams.

The Surface Laptop 5 features a 13.5-inch PixelSense display (2256 x 1504 pixels) with a 3:2 aspect ratio, 1300:1 contrast ratio, and 10-point multi-touch support. There is also one 15-inch variant that has 2496 x 1664 pixels and comes with Corning Glass 5 protection. The laptop is powered by either a 12th Gen Intel Core i5-1235U or an i7-1255U processor built on the Intel EVO platform. It comes with Firmware TPM 2.0 security processor, Intel Iris Xe graphics, up to 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM, and up to 1TB of removable internal SSD.
Surface Laptop 5 comes with a 720p HD front-facing camera that supports Windows Hello technology for biometric authentication. The 13.5-inch variant can deliver up to 18 hours of typical device usage, while the 15-inch is said to deliver up to 17 hours of typical device usage. The laptop is equipped with dual far-field studio microphones and Omnisonic speakers with Dolby Atmos support.
Connectivity options support Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, one USB Type-C port with USB 4.0/ Thunderbolt support, one USB Type-A 3.1 port, one Surface Connect port, and one 3.5mm headphone jack. The 13.5-inch model measures 308 × 223 × 14.5 mm and weighs 1.27 kilograms, while the 15.5-inch variant measures 340 × 244 × 14.7 mm and weighs 1.54 kilograms.
Pricing and availability
The Surface Pro 9 comes in Sapphire, Forest, Platinum, and Graphite color options, while the Surface Pro 9 5G comes in a single Platinum color option. On the other hand, the Surface Laptop 5 comes in Platinum with Alcantara material palm rest and Matte Black color options, while the 15-inch comes in Platinum Metal and Black Metal color options. The laptops are currently available to pre-order in the US and will release on October 25, 2022.
