Microsoft has announced the Surface Duo 2 folding phone at the 2021 Microsoft Surface event. Surface Duo 2 runs on Android 11 OS out of the box and comes pre-installed with Microsoft apps, including Outlook, OneNote, Teams, Edge browser, Office, LinkedIn, and more. The device features dual displays, dual microphones with AI-based noise suppression technology, stereo speakers, Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, triple rear cameras, and 5G connectivity. It also supports Surface Slim Pen, Surface Pen, and Surface Hub 2 Pen.
Surface Duo 2 specifications
Surface Duo 2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G chipset paired with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of storage. The phone comes with two 5.8-inch 1892 x 1344 pixels AMOLED displays, and when opened, it combines in a single 8.3-inch 2688 x 1892 pixels display. The displays feature HDR, 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut, 800 nits maximum brightness, and a 90Hz adaptive refresh rate.
In terms of optics, the Surface Duo 2 sports a triple rear camera setup of a 12-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture, dual pixel PDAF and OIS, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture, OIS and 2X optical zoom, and a 16-megapixel 110-degree ultra-wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture. For selfies and video calls, the Duo 2 has a 12-megapixel camera on the front with f/2.0 aperture and dual-tone LED flash. The device comes with a 4449mAh dual battery with fast charging support.
Connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax, Bluetooth version 5.1, NFC, 5G, 4G LTE, GPS/ Galileo/ GLONASS/ BeiDou/ QZSS, and a USB-C 3.2 (Gen 2) port. Sensors include accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, ambient light, proximity sensor, hall sensor, and a fingerprint reader. The device measure 145.2 x 92.1 x 11.0mm in closed position, and 145.2 x 184.5 x 5.5mm in open position.
Pricing and availability
The Surface Duo 2 128GB storage variant is priced at USD 1499.99 (around Rs. 1,10,800), the 256GB storage variant costs USD 1,599.99 (around Rs. 1,18,200), and the top variant with 512GB storage is priced at USD 1,799.99 (around Rs. 1,33,000). The device comes in Glacier and Obsidian color options and is available for pre-order in select countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, and Japan. It will be released on October 21, 2021.
