Instagram is testing a new change with select users around the globe to simplify and enhance the video experience on the platform by automatically converting videos posted as a feed post into Reels.
Social media consultant Matt Navarra shared a screenshot on Twitter which shows that people who are part of this initial testing will see an in-app popup message titled “video posts are now shared as Reels.”
If a user’s account is public, the video posts converted into Reels will be discoverable by everyone and others can use its original audio to create their own Reels.
Anyone can also create a, however, this can be restricted by the user too through their account settings. If the account is private, the reels will only be visible to your followers.
It is not clear whether this will apply to existing videos also or only to new ones and we don’t know how this feature will work for horizontal videos. Currently, there is also no word on if Instagram plans to bring this feature for all users.
