In December 2021, Amazon India raised its Prime membership price from Rs 999 per year to Rs 1,499 annually. Now, the e-commerce giant has introduced ‘Prime Lite’ membership at Rs 999 per year with reduced benefits.
Prime Lite is currently being tested in beta and available only to select customers. With this membership, users will get unlimited free two days and standard delivery, access to prime exclusive offers and deals, and 5% cashback on shopping with Amazon Pay ICICI credit card.
Amazon Prime Lite also includes access to Prime Video, however, it’s not ad-free and users will have to see advertisements. Additionally, the video playback quality will be restricted to SD and content can be streamed only on 2 devices- mobile or TV.
Difference between Amazon Prime and Prime Lite
Apart from the above-mentioned limitations on Prime Video, there are several more benefits excluded from Prime Lite membership. Prime Lite subscribers won’t get access to no-cost EMI, Amazon Prime Music, free ebooks, Prime Gaming, same-day and one-day delivery.
The Prime Lite membership is an option for those customers who do not utilize the wide variety of benefits offered under Prime subscription and mostly use just the Amazon Shopping app and do not stream content in high resolution.
