The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) earlier this week notified the termination of License Number of 26 companies licenses that have either expired or migrated to UL. The Telecom Department further notified release of Bank Guarantees after ensuring all the dues.
In a letter to all the concerned ISPs, DoT mentioned the 26 companies who have been issued licenses by DS Cell between 15th March 2000 and 19th November 2006 whose license number stands terminated.
“This license is valid initially for a period of FIFTEEN YEARS unless terminated earlier. If requested by the LICENSEE, extension may be granted by the LICENSOR at suitable terms for a period of five years or more at a time. The decision of the LICENSOR shall be final in the matter.
The LICENSOR shall extend or refuse extension of the licence on a request received by it. Such request for extension may be made during 14th year of Licence and in any case before expiry of 14 years from effective date. If no request for extension is received by then, the licence shall automatically stand terminated as per due date,” said DoT in its letter.
The Telecom Department had earlier in December 2020 cancelled the License Number of around 136 companies which were issued ISP license by DS Cell between January 2000 and January 2005.
DoT further stated that around 74 ISP authorizations under Unified License/ Unified License -VNO and ISP License pre Unified License were surrendered as on 30th June 2021.
