Twitter has announced it is ending support for its dedicated desktop Mac application and that it has pulled it from the web and from Apple's App Store.

"We're focusing our efforts on a great Twitter experience that's consistent across platforms. So, starting today the Twitter for Mac app will no longer be available for download," @TwitterSupport tweeted late on Friday.

Support for Twitter for Mac will also end in 30 days, the micro-blogging site added. This means that users will have to use the website or services such as Tweetdeck or third-party apps. The app, before Twitter pulled it, had an average user rating on the Apple App Store of 1.7 out of 5.

Automation and the use of multiple accounts

Keeping Twitter safe and free from spam is a top priority for us. One of the most common spam violations we see is the use of multiple accounts and the Twitter developer platform to attempt to artificially amplify or inflate the prominence of certain Tweets. To be clear: Twitter prohibits any attempt to use automation for the purposes of posting or disseminating spam, and such behavior may result in enforcement action.

Introducing #BloodMatters: a social initiative on blood donation

People can request for blood donation simply with a Tweet to @BloodDonorsIN with their location hashtag, blood type, mobile contact and Twitter handle (see example below). People interested to help can follow @BloodDonorsIN and respond or retweet requests for help.
We will support the implementation of an automated response solution to scale the operations of @BloodDonorsIN, currently run by a group of volunteers. We will also amplify the real-time communication efforts of the handle with account verification, promotion on Twitter, and Twitter Lite to connect @BloodDonorsIN with people across the entire country, from the metros to rural India. Twitter Lite (mobile.twitter.com) provides a data-friendly mobile web experience accessible to anyone with a smartphone or tablet with a browser, optimized for speed with up to 30% faster launch times, reduces data usage up to 70% with data saver mode, and takes up less than 1MB on mobile devices.
