In an effort to increase social engagement on the site and reflect relevant content to users, Twitter has launched the ‘While you were away’ feature on the iOS app.

Now, when iOS users sign into their Twitter app, they will be able to to see a snapshot of popular or relevant tweets they have missed since the last time they logged in. The Vergeshared that it’s not clear what metrics Twitter uses to determine which tweets get slotted into the ‘While you were away’ recaps.

However engagement levels and other factors will be used to determine which tweets will be seen in the feature.

We are yet to see the feature on our iPhone or iPad versions of the app, so it’s not clear if this is a global roll-out. However Twitter has said that users you spend a lot of time on the site will see the feature less than others who access the site less regularly.

As expected, Twitter along with Microsoft has announced a new app for Windows 10. The all-new Twitter app is made available alongside the launch of Windows 10 for PCs and tablets. It is a universal Windows app that offers instant access to top tweets, photos and videos, without the need for a login. Users will now see tweets in live tiles from the Start menu.

Besides the Twitter live tiles, some of the highlights of the Windows 10 app include the ability to upload multiple (up to four) photos. The app also supports animated GIFs, Vine playback and sharing photos privately via Direct Messages. The tweets with photos, Vine videos and other select content will now show a preview in the Home timeline.

Twitter for Windows is now available for Windows 10 users across the globe and users can expect some improvements added to the app as well.

Recently, Twitter updated the iOS app to version 6.33, which is in line with the new API that comes with iOS 8. It brings interactive notifications and also allows to favourite or reply to a tweet directly from the notification panel when another app is running on the screen.

The popular micro-blogging site Twitter surely knows how to keep its users happy.

This is certainly a good news for all Windows 10 smartphone users who are also avid users of Twitter.

Recently, a report stated that Twitter has launched its app for Windows 10 smartphones to effectively update its universal Windows app to support desktops and tablets.

Microsoft officially plans to launch Windows 10 Mobile in the first quarter of 2016, while the newly-launched smartphones and the existing Windows Phone devices already have this new app, venturebeat.com reported on Wednesday.

"When bringing the app to mobile phones we carefully considered each section of Twitter and how the user interaction translates from desktops and tablets," Twitter product designer Angela Lam said.

"We found that 90 percent of the UI (User Interface) and interaction models could be shared from these devices to mobile phones, but there were places where we decided to make adjustments to optimise for each," Lam added.

Twitter for Windows 10 includes almost all the new features the social network has recently implemented, including Moments, group Direct Messages, camera support (shoot, edit, and tweet videos), and quote tweet.

You can even check out top tweets, search, check out profiles, and peruse Moments without logging in, the report said.

Twitter for Windows Phone includes a dark theme, which the company says was popular and has thus been included in the updated Windows app, that is available on desktops and tablets as well, not just phones.

The app can be downloaded from the Windows Store.

After reporting dismal results this week, micro-blogging website Twitter is no longer pitted against social networks like Facebook and is now categorised under the “news” section in the Apple’s App Store.

“Starting today (Friday), Twitter is categorised under the ‘news’ section of the App Store rather than ‘social networking’. It is a change that makes a lot of sense and fits with both how Twitter has positioned itself as well as how it is being used,” the technology website Endgadget reported.

Twitter is famous for real time news feeds and events and unlike Facebook, it is preferred less when it comes to keeping in touch with friends.

It is more about following people who share things you find interesting and relevant, whether you know them or not.

Twitter Moments was probably the biggest new feature the service launched in the last year and it again shows its focus squarely on curating the best commentary surrounding current events, the report noted.

This is probably the best thing that has happened with Twitter as this change has helped it gain more visibility and it is now the number one free app in the news category of the App Store.

Twitter shares fell sharply about 12 percent after the micro-blogging website – which managed to add 5 million people to take its monthly active user base to 310 million – missed the first quarter revenue estimates this week.

The company posted $595 million revenue in the first quarter ending March 31. It was up 36 percent from $435.9 million in the same quarter last year but missed the $607.9 million expected on average among analysts, Forbes reported.
Twitter posted a net loss of $79.7 million compared with a year-earlier loss of $162.4 million.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said that “we remain focused on improving our service to make it fast, simple and easy to use”.

Twitter has predicted revenue for the second quarter between $590 million and $610 million — much lower than the $678 million analysts expected.

“Revenue came in at the low end of our guidance range, as brand marketers did not increase spend as quickly as expected in Q1,” the company tweeted.

According to Dorsey, the engagement on Twitter is growing. Direct messages are up about 50 percent year-over-year and tweets shared via direct message are up more than 75 percent quarter-over-quarter.

Twitter said more than 800 million people visit the site and there are more than 1 billion monthly unique visitors to pages that syndicate Twitter content.

Twitter’s stock has fallen over 20 percent this year amid sluggish growth.

Twitter has rolled out a new design for its Android app. The new design is much better than the previous version and also seems to be more intuitive. The redesigned Twitter application for Android is similar to the iOS app, minus the material design-themed tweet icon and a drawer on the left.

The app now has a pull-out drawer on the left of the screen, which lets users quickly access features like profile, highlights, lists, the connect tab and app settings. Twitter has added swipe functionality in the Tab bar at the top of the screen, which lets users quickly move between Home timeline, Notifications and Direct Messages. Additionally, the Android app now has a new floating material design-treated ‘compose tweet’ icon at the bottom right corner, so that a user can easily post a tweet while scrolling through the timeline.

The app is a lot cleaner and organised for a better user experience. The new design puts out all the options and items that were earlier hidden under an ellipsis symbol on the app screen. The new app has been rolled out to all Android users.

Micro-blogging website Twitter has launched Android TV app allowing users to stream National Football League (NFL) and other live videos available on its platform.

“Users can also watch a feed of curated tweets and a live broadcast side-by-side, and there is no need to log in or even have a Twitter account to access live streams through the app,” entertainment website Variety reported.

Earlier this year, Twitter launched a new version of its app for digital media players — Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and for Microsoft’s video game console Xbox One — allowing users to see live streaming video available on Twitter.

Twitter’s Apple TV app has a unique feature that allows users to watch live video and Tweeted video clips, side by side.
