Zaheer can't take his place for granted: Akram
New Delhi: With youngsters such as Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron are making their presence felt, India's pace spearhead Zaheer Khan cannot take his place for granted, says former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram.
"Zaheer can't take his place for granted. He has been out of cricket for a long time and unfit as well. Though he has started working in the nets, bowling in the middle is an entirely different thing.
"He must play loads of domestic cricket and the selectors must monitor him closely. I am sure India don't want a repeat of England in Australia. Hence preparation will be the key," Akram said.
Zaheer, after bowling a few overs during the first Test in England, had missed out on the remaining tour and the current West Indies series due to an ankle injury.
But the premier Indian bowler, recovering from an ankle surgery, is expected to be a part of the squad to tour Australia next month.
Akram reckoned the team's upcoming tour of Australia will be an opportunity to salvage its overseas reputation after the debacle in England where they failed to win a single match.
