India hope to continue winning ways at Chepauk
CHENNAI: It's another day in office for the Indian players. The series is won, the boys have got back to some sort of batting or bowling form and there's nothing much to play for. Had this been the Davis Cup, the dead rubber would probably have been cancelled, but that surely can't happen in this game, in this age.
With a long testing tour looming, the top Test players have already left for Australia. But the likes of Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, R Ashwin, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma - who are equally important to the Test set-up - have to play out these games, slugging it out with a below-par West Indies on a sluggish Chepauk track for a Sunday crowd and a TV audience.
It's understandable why four of the five above-mentioned players kept themselves away from a practice session on Saturday morning. Viru, who had gone back to Delhi after the Indore heroics, didn't even reach Chennai when the team was practising. He, of course, was back before the BCCI annual prize distribution ceremony in the evening - the combo offer that came packaged with the fifth ODI.
