This is why Hotstar failed to make any profit.

Thing is they didnt do the math if you are going to keep Sports free and only put English content for premium subscribers then they will struggle to recover even 100 million let alone 120 million and make profit

There will be people who subscribe but the fact is it is not going to be enough to even recover the cost they spent

Premium English content attracts affluent consumers with high purchasing power. Jio could then sell premium brand ads slot to these specific target group during a live event or sports. This specific target demographic carries so much significant weight in the advertising world.

We don't know what type of programming will be behind paywall.
