Cabinet clears bill that makes "triple talaq" a criminal offence

The bill proposes fines and support for affected women while husbands who attempt "instant divorce" could be sentenced to three years in prison. The traditional practice involves a Muslim man saying "talaq" (divorce) three times - in any form, including via social media and text messages.

India's highest council of ministers has cleared a bill to make TripleTalaq or instant verbal divorce a criminal offence with upto 3 years of imprisonment plus fine as the punishment. The bill will now have to be passed by both houses of India's Parliament

It's not a crime.Indian judiciary takes years to give divorces.Why should a man suffer.
Also What if a woman leaves a man. Then no crime.
We should anyway have gender neutral laws.Our laws are biased towards women to the extent that Canada issues advisory to its citizens who travels to india to stay away from Indian women.

But opposition won't let parliament function and will take up useless issues like EVM tampering which has no meaning.
