THE DURATION of train journeys between Chandigarh and New Delhi could be reduced by around half an hour as the Railways is planning to introduce premier Tejas trains on Delhi-Chandigarh route. The railways is likely to announce the new train in the new timetable which would be released in next few days.

The Tejas train, which was announced in the union budget earlier this year, will give passengers, high tech entertainment units, Wi-Fi and other facilities on-board. Tejas coaches will have executive class and chair cars.

Divisional railway manager (DRM), Ambala Division, Dinesh Kumar told Chandigarh Newsline that his office has received communication that the Tejas train between Delhi and Chandigarh will be included in the new railways timetable. “So far, no Tejas train is operational in the northern railways. We have not yet received information about the stoppage, fare and other details for the Delhi-Chandigarh Tejas train,” he said.

Kumar added that Tejas train could reduce the travel time between Delhi and Chandigarh around half an hour. Currently, Shatabdi train completes journey from city to Delhi in around 3.25 hours. “We are hopeful that the train will reach to Delhi in 2.50 hours,” said Kumar, adding that the speed of the train from Delhi- Ambala will be 130 kmph.

There is no confirmation about the fares for the new trains. But, the railways officials said that it would be more than a regular Shatabi fare. “The fare could be higher up to 30 percent than Shatabdi,” said a Delhi based railway official. The fare for Chandigarh-New Delhi for a CC ticket is now around Rs 605.

The official said that even if the train is announced in the railway timetable, there is no clarity when the service would be really started. “The coaches are being readied in the factory. Once they are manufactured, then only railways would announce when the service would be started,” he said

The much-awaited Tejas Express, which boasts of several modern facilities onboard like LED TV and tea/coffee vending machine, will be flagged off from Mumbai for Goa on May 22.

Since the train is equipped with better facilities, the fare will also be slightly higher as compared to normal mail/express service, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said while inspecting the new Tejas coaches.

Equipped with CCTV cameras besides smoke and fire detection system, the 19-coach Tejas train will have bio- vacuum toilets and GPS-based passenger information display system. There will be comfortable seating arrangements and each seat will have LED TV with touch control system and call bell facilities.

Of course bro, the timing is bad. Moreover, In news they were saying that Tejas will run at 200 Kmph but here i can see that it is taking almost same approx 9 hrs as other trains like Jan Shatabdi. They should have increased its speed like Gatimaan Express.
