England Test captain Andrew Strauss saw his run of low scores continue when he was out in the opening over of Middlesex's first innings in their county match against Gloucestershire on Wednesday.

The left-hander fell lbw to former England seamer Jon Lewis for just two at Uxbridge in his first innings since a forgettable Test series against Sri Lanka.

Although England won the three-match series 1-0, opening batsman Strauss contributed just 27 runs in four innings.

England face India in a four-Test series starting at Strauss's Lord's home ground next month.

But so concerned are the England management by the 34-year-old's lack of runs that he has been given special dispensation to 'guest' for Somerset in their tour match against India.

The tourists' only warm-up match is also likely to provide Strauss with his last chance for first-class runs before the Tests, given Middlesex are unlikely to have a second innings at Uxbridge, with that fixture already into its third day of four on Wednesday.
