Sri Lankan authorities are
investigating a bid to persuade
members of the national cricket team
to underperform in a recent Test, to
ensure a surprise victory for West
Indies,Dayasiri Jayasekera,the sports
minister, saidFriday(December 18).
Jayasekera said a man linked to a
bookmaker had approached Kusal
Perera, Sri Lanka's wicketkeeper, and
Rangana Herath, the leading spinner,
to engineer a Sri Lankan batting
collapse at a Test in Galle in October,
which the home side went on to win.
"We have started a police inquiry in
addition to an anti-corruption probe by
Sri Lanka Cricket. We have started a

Jayasekera said.
Co-incidentally, Herath bagged ten
wickets as Sri Lanka beat West Indies
by an innings and six runs in the
