Good News Sony’s Funimation Global Group Completes Acquisition of Crunchyroll from AT&T

Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. (SPE) and AT&T Inc.* (NYSE:T) today announced that SPE has completed its acquisition of AT&T’s Crunchyroll anime business through Funimation Global Group, LLC. Funimation is a joint venture between SPE and Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc.’s subsidiary, Aniplex Inc. The agreement was first announced in December 2020.

Crunchyroll is a premier anime direct-to-consumer service with 5 million SVOD subscribers and growing. It serves 120 million registered users across more than 200 countries and territories offering AVOD, mobile games, manga, events merchandise and distribution. The deal provides the opportunity for Crunchyroll and Funimation to broaden distribution for their content partners and expand fan-centric offerings for consumers.

Crunchyroll recently added only 1 new simulcast of vanguard overdress anime series , they only have few j drama no simulcast . mostly 2 simulcat 1 boruto & other vanguard. even for these two is there possibility of sony dubbing it in hindi or other indian languages for their sony liv app or ps5as recektkly in yay channel they aired obbocchama kun though not related as it was already dubbed.

is there possibility f them to expand crunchyroll india through dubbing offering in ott in indirect manner or through funimation , eve disney+ hotstar would marvel add anime short series in their app soon .

just checked they even have some good popular mangas but they are behind paywall most of them , and some games is there possibiulity of offering these in their sony liv app or with crunchyroll integration with sony liv as an add on - as it would help them to differentiate from others ott players in south asia.

Nope, they don't have any plans to expand in Southeast Asia, South Asia, HK, TW etc. I have told many times because of monopoly of Muse, Ani-One, Mighty Media, ODEX etc. Those distributors started business way before Crunchyroll and now they have monopoly.. Bilibili will play important factor for that role, Sony has stakes in Bilibili..
